Since 2020, LASplanning have been pleased to represent a client who sought to provide for his extended family as members of the Gypsy/Traveller community.
The decision now by Aberdeenshire Council to approve the site in line with the recommendation of the Council Planning Authority report, is welcomed; not least as this is understood to be the first such approval of this nature within the Council area in recent years.
In doing so Aberdeenshire Council and the planning officer/s responsible for the case have recognised the distinct and specific needs of the Gypsy/Traveller community in addition to accepting that appropriate sites for such development can help to ensure diverse communities and to meet unmet demand.
“… The Council will also continue to seek the provision of alternative permanent sites for the use of the Gypsy/Traveller community in appropriate locations through its Site Provision Strategy and allocation in the Local Development Plan….” (Paragraph 7.3, Aberdeenshire Council Committee Report, 18 November 2021)
LASplanning therefore look forward to monitoring across the Council area how the future needs of the Gypsy/Traveller community are met and stand ready to assist the Council or other interested parties in progressing related proposals or those which may now follow.
The services provided by LASplanning were those of professional Chartered Town Planning consultancy delivered and co-ordinated by practice principal Lorna Sim.
In October, Lorna Sim and LASplanning proudly took on the Maggie’s Edinburgh ‘10,000 Steps a Day’ Challenge for Maggie’s Centres, in memory of Lorna’s Mum.
The goal was to reach the very respectable fundraising target of £200.
…after a lot of hard work by Lorna and her family, not only did they successfully achieve their 10,000 steps a day, they also smashed their fundraising target. At the time of writing this, Lorna has raised over £5,300 – fantastic.
I suppose we should also mention that Lorna took an incredible 354,987 steps throughout October – every blister was worth it!
Of course Lorna and LASplanning is very grateful to the support they received from our network.
About Maggie’s
Maggie’s offers the best possible support for free to anyone with cancer. Anyone can visit a centre or join the online community. They help people take back control when cancer turns life upside down, by helping to provide professional support for anything from treatment side effects to money worries. Family and friends can visit Maggie’s too.
Maggie’s story: A mother of two children sits with her husband as the consultant tells her that her cancer can’t be cured. They are moved to a strip-lit, windowless corridor of the hospital to process this devastating news. This was Maggie Keswick-Jencks at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh in 1993. She and her husband Charles discussed the need for somewhere ‘better’ to go, outside of the clinical environment, but still nearby. The very first Maggie’s opened in Edinburgh in 1996 and there are now 23 centres in the UK and three overseas.
